International film star Gong Li is set to play Chinese volleyball legend Jenny Lang Ping in a new movie that will be directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Peter Chan Ho-sun, according to several sources.

Chinese-born Singaporean Gong has agreed to play the iconic volleyball and coach – dubbed the “Iron Hammer” in her playing days – in the movie that is eyeing a release during the first day of the Lunar New Year on January 25, 2020.

The film will feature several mainland professional players in the movie that highlights the struggles of the Chinese women’s volleyball team during the past 40 years.
