Hey everybody, It’s Frank Mars for Real Story. I want to talk about “listening” today.

I sometimes ask myself, what it would be like to record the voice of your friends, family or anyone you care about? So maybe 20 years later it will give you something to remember about the past. Days ago I found an old tape with a good friend’s voice reading English, I knew she recorded it when she was a middle school student 20 years ago. Now I have no idea where she is, but I always have her voice in the tape, though I can not find a tape player any more. I’m also sure each time when I listen to it, I can still feel her passion in reading. In life, it seems not many people want to listen to others that much, because they are always busy, on the way to something. If a child can sit and listen to what his parents tell him or her, without interrupting them, it not only gets the parents easier, but also teaches the child to be more polite and to be a better person. I have a student called Tom that nobody in his class liked, because he always made noises while the others were trying to learn in class. What I did was showing him my anger and told his mom about his behaviors. But nothing seemed to change, until one day his mom told me about his family: his dad was always away and his mom had not much time for him. Then I tried to understand him and encourage him even for the little better things he learnt in my class. He has changed much since then.
